How can I forgive the kid who bullies me at school? It can be really tough to offer forgiveness when someone is mean to you, especially if it’s someone who you see every day, like someone who is bullying you at school. It’s natural to feel angry, hurt, or upset, but it’s important to remember that holding onto those negative feelings won’t make you feel better in the long run. So, what can you do?

Can You Forgive Someone Who is a Bully to You in Class?

Yes, you can forgive someone who is a bully to you in class. Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you have to forget what they did or pretend that it never happened, but it does mean that you choose to let go of the anger and hurt so that you can move forward in a healthy way.

Should You Forgive a Bully?

Yes, you should forgive a bully. Forgiveness isn’t just about the other person – it’s about you. When you hold onto anger and resentment, it can take a toll on your own mental and emotional health. Forgiving someone who has hurt you can help you let go of those negative feelings and find peace.

Not Forgiving Gives the Bully More Power

When you hold onto anger and resentment, it gives the bully power over you. They may not even know or care that you’re upset, but you’re the one who is carrying around those negative feelings. Forgiving them takes away that power and puts it back in your hands.

Forgive as God Forgives You

We can look to God as our example of forgiveness. The Bible tells us that God forgives us when we ask for forgiveness, no matter what we’ve done.

John 3:16 in the Bible tells us how God much God loves us.

For God so loved the world (that includes you!) that He gave His only Son (Jesus), that whoever (that is you!) believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

In the same way, we can choose to forgive others, even when it’s hard. We can pray for the strength to forgive and ask God to help us let go of our anger and hurt.

Forgiveness Character Education Curriculum for Elementary Schools

Learning about forgiveness can be an important part of character education in elementary schools. Here are some ideas for lessons or activities that could be used to teach forgiveness:

  • Read a story or watch a video about forgiveness, such as “The Forgiveness Garden” by Lauren Thompson or the story of the Prodigal Son in the Bible. Discuss what forgiveness means and why it’s important.
  • Have students write letters of forgiveness to someone who has hurt them (they don’t have to send the letters if they don’t want to).
  • Play a game where students have to work together to solve a problem, but one student is intentionally trying to make it difficult. Afterwards, discuss how forgiveness can help in situations like this.
  • Have students create a forgiveness jar, where they can write down things they want to forgive or be forgiven for.

So, how can I forgive the kid who bullies me at school? Remember, forgiving someone who has hurt you isn’t always easy, but it’s an important part of being a kind and compassionate person. Choose forgiveness and let go of those negative feelings so that you can find peace and move forward in a healthy way.
